Traveling during the 2nd Trimester is best...

Beyond babycenter.com, I've subscribe to weekly pregnancy updates from MUSC's website (Pregnancy Podcast).  Dr. Jill Mauldin sends you an email each week with a short recorded message (audio).

On week 14's message, she welcomed me into my second trimester and spoke about traveling (see bottom of post for transcript). Nick and I had already been wondering about traveling.  We have planned several trips over the next few months to make sure we have a little fun before our little one arrives.  These podcast have been great because she always addresses things that are on my mind at the time.  After hearing this message we planned two trips right away.  I also spoke with Dr. Villers about traveling.  She suggested I take a baby aspirin before hitting the road (to help prevent blood clots), and getting out to stretch every two-three hours.

This weekend we went to Baxley, GA to visit Nick's cousin's (Jenni) family.  It was our first time going, and it wasn't a bad drive at all (3 hours...got to see lots of country).  Jenni's daughter was turning two, and had a tutu party!  All the little ones were very cute in their tutus.

Transcript to weekly Podcast
"I can only imagine that as you are getting into the 2nd trimester and you are feeling better, you want to get out of the house – and perhaps even out of town!
Traveling is best done during the second trimester. Actually, most things are best done during the 2nd trimester. You feel better. The nausea is gone. You have more energy. And your abdomen has not grown so large that you are uncomfortable.
First things first. When you are in the car, you must wear your seat belt – both the lap and shoulder belts. Nothing will protect you more than wearing your seat belts and having the air bags in place. You really do need both! When in the car, place your lap belt under your belly and place the shoulder belt between your breasts. Also, push your seat back as far as you can, but where you can safely still reach the brake pedal.
When you are traveling for an extended period of time, remember to get up and walk around about every hour and ½. This is important. You’ll be more comfortable and it will keep the blood circulating in your legs to minimize the chance of a blood clot forming."

Totally agree! We flew to San Francisco and hiking Yosemite during the 2nd trimester.
